"Mexican Textile: Culture, Strength, Tradition"

27 September 2018, Latin Art Gallery

The history of Mexican textiles is over 2000 years old and forms an essential part of Mexican culture. Each region has its own patterns that are inherited from generation to generation. For women, weaving is a form of keeping alive contact with their ancestral line, their roots, and it is also a path to their independence and emancipation. Traditional textiles are woven in hand on hand looms or on pedal wooden looms. The traditional textiles culture resists face to face to the global industry and the abuse of the original patterns. At the same time, efforts are being made to enhance the value of this precious work by promoting fair wages for this work.
